Striped Bass

Commonly known as rockfish, Striped Bass move from the ocean up rivers to spawn in fresh waters in the spring. Once threatened, the species has made a strong recovery in recent years thanks to fisheries management programs.

Although fish up to 125 lbs. have been documented, the current state record weighed in at 60 lbs. and was caught by Catherine Willis in 1972 from the Hatteras Island surf.
