Red Snapper

The colorful Red Snapper is considered to be the prize catch of all the reef fishes. These bottom feeders are usually found at depths of 150-300 feet in near shore waters, and are often taken on squid or cut fish.

The spectacular 40 lb. catch off Cape Lookout in 1970 by Ben Grant remains the state record.
