Kingfish

Commonly known as whiting or sea mullet, the tasty Kingfish is familiar to pier fisherman all along the North Carolina coast. This relative of the croaker is identified by the single barbel below the chin.

The state record catch of 3 lbs. 8 oz. was made off Bogue Banks Pier by Ted Drinnon in 1971.
