Hammerhead Shark

The peculiar head of this species is thought to aid in finding food such as stingrays hiding on the ocean floor. Hammerheads are powerful, toothy predators which often feed in inshore waters at night.

Robert T. Keller holds the state record with a 710 lb. catch from the Nags Head Pier in 1960.
