Fabulous Fall Fishing
Anglers relish fall fishing along the Outer Banks. In general, these barrier islands are less crowded this time of year, yet the water remains warm and brimming with fish. Pier patrons can expect a chance at catching the big three – bluefish, puppy drum and trout. Additional species to fill the cooler include flounder, pompano, sea mullet, Spanish mackerel and spot.
Last year seasoned anglers experienced a weeklong, bull, red-drum bite that was off the charts. For most, just fighting a juvenile or puppy drum on the pier or in the surf is a highlight of fall fishing.
With all this in mind, the pier is open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily through Thanksgiving weekend.
Fishing Classes Galore
Looking to learn more about fishing? The pier’s education department offers a well-rounded variety of classes this time of year. Catch It, Clean It, Cook It takes you from the thrill of the catch to the cleaning station, and then straight to the kitchen for a fresh, fried-fish lunch every Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday beginners can sign up for Family Fishing, our two-hour version of Fishing 101. Early on Thursday mornings, hit the beach with an instructor for an adventure in our popular Surf Fishing Workshop.
The aquariums in the main lobby are undergoing repair. Watch for cool, new fish when completed.
